Kaushik Manjunatha is a Research Associate at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM), University Hospital Essen. He holds a Master of Science in Autonomous Systems from Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg and has around six years of experience in software engineering and applied machine learning across healthcare and industry. At the IKIM, he works on the development and maintenance of the OMI Gateway, a modular FHIR-compliant platform for medical AI inference, with a strong focus on robust deployment, interoperability, and practical clinical usability. Prior to joining the IKIM, he worked as a Machine Learning Engineer and AI audit developer at Fraunhofer Heinrich-Hertz-Institut HHI Berlin, contributing to trustworthy evaluation methods for AI in healthcare, and at Hewlett Packard Enterprise Bengaluru as a software developer building enterprise software solutions. His particular interest lies in creating trustworthy AI systems that combine technical robustness with meaningful impact for medical research and patient care. Outside of work, he enjoys hobby photography and spending time outdoors as an avid hiker and explorer.
